Overview
The Parents Association provides a forum for discussion of ways in which parents can help improve the general education environment for students. This includes promoting ways in which we can encourage our sons or daughters to obtain the maximum benefit from the educational system by providing a home situation which is conducive to study as well as supporting the school.
Key Objectives
Our main aim is to help improve the general educational environment of the students. This may be achieved in a number of ways:
- Act as liaison between parents and the school as well as other organisations
- To assist parents in acquiring the skills which their role demands by way of discussions, talks etc.
- Fundraising e.g. help with the organisation of and participation in the annual Christmas bazaar
- To keep parents informed of school activities and promote parents involvement when relevant

REPORT FROM PRO Mary Buckley-Healy:
The Mount Saint Michael Parents Association is made up of representatives from each year. The members of the Association are elected annually at the AGM which is usually held in late September/early October.

We are involved in a lot of activities including organising the School Book Rental Scheme, some fundraising consisting mainly of the Christmas Bazaar. We hold a yearly Book Sale-where both new and second hand books & uniforms are for sale.

From time to time we arrange for relevant speakers to come and do a presentation to students and/or parents. In 2016 we made it possible to have Professor Jim Lucey come to Mount Saint Michael to deliver a very interesting and helpful talk on mental health and well-being.

On April 3rd 2017 a talk has been organised. The theme of the talk is the Internet and issues which may arise. The talk will be given by Liam Doocey, who works in Youth Health Services and has many years’ experience working with young people. It is recommended that as many parents as possible attend what promises to be a very informative and interesting talk.
We endeavour to keep parents informed of school activities and promote parents involvement when relevant.
It is well worth joining the Association especially if you are a new parent to the school. It can help you to get to know other parents and to make the transition from primary to secondary school not so daunting. If you want to get involved during the year let any committee member know or come to the next AGM.
